Precautions
If you have any of the conditions listed below, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
If you are allergic to the active ingredient hydromorphone, other drugs, sulfites, or any of the ingredients in hydromorphone tablets, solution, or extended-release tablets
Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medicines, nutritional supplements, vitamins, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take.
If you are using any of the drugs listed below, talk to your doctor before using Dilaudid:
- Medicines for irritable bowel disease, glaucoma, Parkinson’s disease, ulcers and urinary problems (cyclobenzaprine, dextromethorphan, ipratropium or others)
- Medicines for migraine headaches (frovatriptan, eletriptan, and others)
- Serotonin blockers (ondansetron, palonosetron and others)
- Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (citalopram, escitalopram and others)
- Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (desvenlafaxine, duloxetine etc.)
- Antidepressants (trazodone, doxepin, trimipramine and others)
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have stopped taking any of the monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors (isocarboxazid, phenelzine, etc.) within the past 2 weeks.

You should know that this medicine may cause constipation.
To prevent constipation, you may need to pay attention to the foods we eat.
This drug should not be used, especially with alcohol.
Please take care to stay away from alcohol during your treatment.
Never take a double dose in the same month to make up for a missed dose.

- Back, muscle or joint pain

- Anxiety

- Itching

While you are taking Dilaudid, you should talk to your doctor about the availability of a rescue medicine called naloxone (eg at home, office).
This medication is used to reverse the life-threatening effects of an overdose.
Before having any laboratory test (especially those involving methylene blue), tell your doctor and laboratory personnel that you are using Dilaudid.
This drug can be habit-forming, especially with long-term use.
Take Dilaudid exactly as directed.
Do not take more or more often.
Dilaudid can cause serious or life-threatening breathing problems, especially during the first 24 to 72 hours of your treatment and any time your dose is increased.
Make sure your doctor monitors you carefully during your treatment.
If you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, your baby may experience life-threatening withdrawal symptoms after birth if you take dilaudid regularly.
