Children’s Benadryl Dosage
It is an antihistamine drug that relieves allergy symptoms with diphenhydramine, the active ingredient in Benadryl.
Benadryl is known as a sedative drug and makes you feel more sleepy than other antihistamines.
This medicine is usually used for the conditions listed below:
- Short-term sleep problems (insomnia), including a cold, cough, or itching that doesn’t allow you to sleep
- Cold and cough symptoms
- Hives, eczema, (urticaria) and insect bites and stings
- Hay fever
Children’s Benadryl Dosage
This drug, whose active ingredient is Diphenhydramine, is produced for babies 6 months and older and adults.
Benadryl is an antihistamine and can be used for allergic reactions and allergies.
Benadryl can be given every 6 hours.
Do not give Benadryl to children younger than 2 years old unless directed otherwise by their doctor.
You can give your children diphenhydramine tablets and liquid for cold and cough symptoms if they are over 6 years old.
If you are going to treat allergy symptoms, you can give this medicine to your child over 12 years old with doctor’s control.

Who Cannot Use Benadryl?
For some people, using Benadryl is not appropriate.

- You have a disease that produces a lot of phlegm or Asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD if any.
- If you have an eye disease called primary angle-closure glaucoma.
- If you have kidney or liver problems.
- If you have a blockage in your stomach or intestines.
- If you have bladder problems.
- If you can’t drink alcohol. Some liquid diphenhydramine products may contain small amounts of alcohol. For these reasons, be sure to thoroughly read the materials on the product.
Side Effects
This medicine may cause the following side effects in yourself or your children:
- Dizziness, unsteadiness, or difficulty concentrating
- Feeling sleepy during the day
- Dry mouth
- Fast or irregular heartbeat
- Numbness or prickling sensation
- Feeling confused or very restless
In rare cases, this drug shows severe reactions. In any of the cases listed below, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor without waiting:
- If you experience a skin rash that is itchy, red, swollen, blistered or peeling
- Wheezing breathing
- Difficulty breathing or speaking
- Tightness in the chest or throat
- Swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat
