Proxalin-plus (Naproxen, Acetaminophen)
Proxalin-plus is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) whose active ingredients are naproxen and acetaminophen (paracetamol) and works by reducing inflammation and pain in the body.
It is generally used for conditions such as bursitis, gout, menstrual cramps, ankylosing spondylitis and tendinitis.
There are two components in the medicine.
If we learn these components, we will understand how the medicine works.
What Will We Learn?
Naproxen
The naproxen in the medication is used to reduce fever and relieve mild pain caused by muscle aches, headaches, arthritis, menstrual periods, colds, toothaches, and backaches.
This medication is in a class of medications called NSAIDs.
It works by stopping the body’s production of a substance that causes fever, pain, and inflammation.
Acetaminophen
This ingredient relieves fever and pain.
Acetaminophen can also be combined with other active ingredients in medications that treat colds, allergies, coughs, flu, and insomnia.
It is used with other ingredients in some prescription medications to treat pain.
It should be noted that this ingredient can cause serious liver damage if used in excessive doses.
Things To Consider When Using Proxalin-plus
If you are giving Proxalin-plus to your child, make sure that the product is appropriate for the child’s age by reading the packaging label carefully.
Contact your doctor to find out how much medicine the child needs.
Tell your doctor if you are allergic to paracetamol, naproxen, aspirin or other NSAIDs such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and ketoprofen, any medicine for pain or fever, or other medications.
Tell your pharmacist or doctor what vitamins, prescription and nonprescription drugs, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take.
If you are using any of the following medicines, inform your doctor before using Proxalin-plus:
- Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors
- Beta-blockers

Do not take Proxalin-plus with any other medicine for pain unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
Tell your doctor if you have asthma or have ever had asthma.
If you have anemia (red blood cells or kidney disease), kidney failure or liver failure, inform your doctor.
If you are 65 or older, talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking this medication.
Older adults should usually take a lower dose of this medication for short periods of time because higher doses used regularly may not be as effective and are more likely to cause serious side effects.
If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, be sure to tell your doctor or dentist that you are using this medication.
Carefully read the instructions for use that come with this medicine.
Be sure to ask your doctor any questions you have.
If you use Proxalin-plus to relieve arthritis symptoms, your symptoms may begin to improve within 1 week.
It may take 2 weeks or longer, depending on the dose, for you to feel the full benefit of the medication.
Call your doctor if you develop new unexpected symptoms, your symptoms worsen, or your fever lasts more than 3 days.
If you have a health problem such as phenylketonuria, contact your doctor before using this medicine.
How To Use Proxalin-plus?
The dose of Proxalin-Plus is determined by the doctor depending on the disease.
Your doctor may prescribe different doses depending on your weight and health problem.
If the dose prescribed by your doctor is different from the usual dose, please continue with the dosage schedule recommended by your doctor.
For children under 18 years of age, the dose will be determined by the doctor and will depend on body weight.
The usual dose for adults with osteoarthritis is 250 mg to 500 mg or 275 mg to 550 mg by mouth twice a day.
The usual dose for adults for pain due to menstrual cramps is 550 mg orally once, followed by 550 mg every 12 hours, or 250 mg to 275 mg every 6 to 8 hours as needed.
Pregnancy And Breastfeeding
The acetaminophen in the medicine is safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but the other ingredient in the medicine, naproxen, is a risk factor.
Naproxen, the ingredient in the drug, can harm the fetus and cause problems at birth if taken during pregnancy at about 20 weeks or later.
Do not take Proxalin-plus during or after the 20th week of your pregnancy unless told otherwise by your doctor.
You should know that Proxalin-plus may temporarily reduce fertility in women.
